Maryland Football Schedule Prediction

The Maryland football season is rapidly approaching and it seems like they are destined for another solid season in College Park. Their win total comes in at 7 for this year, a mark that they tied last season.

Week 1: Towson

Not much analysis, hopefully, they can rest the starters for the fourth quarter of this one.

Week 2: Charlotte

Last year, the Terps won 56-21 in Charlotte. This year, I have a feeling the 49ers will put up a better fight. They have brought in an army of high major transfers, thanks to new head coach Biff Poggi, who used to coach at Baltimore powerhouse St. Frances Academy. While I think Maryland still wins comfortably, I believe Charlotte will put up a better fight this season.

Week 3: Virginia

A little Friday night lights as an old ACC rivalry is renewed vs Virginia. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, I think they will be very bad this year. They have lost most of their talent, including QB Brennan Armstrong. I think this game ends in a blowout win for the good guys.

Week 4: at Michigan State

Michigan State is a team that I believe is trending in the wrong direction, fast. Their long-time starter, Peyton Thorne, has transferred to Auburn, and their best receiver, Keon Coleman, transferred to Florida State. Overall the team is looking at a rough season and I think the Terps win despite being on the road.

Week 5: Indiana

Indiana has really struggled since their miracle 2020 season and I don't think they are getting much better. It was close last year, but Taulia Tagovailoa got hurt and it was on the road. I think this should be a comfortable win for Maryland.

Week 6: at Ohio State

According to my predictions, we likely have a matchup of two 5-0 teams meeting in Columbus. Last year, Maryland kept it close but ultimately fell short. I think Maryland suffers their first loss of the season, but they keep it close.

Week: 7 Illinois

Illinois had a resurgence last season under Brett Bielma. However, the Big Ten West was quite weak, so take it with a grain of salt. They lose a lot of talent, especially on defense, so I expect them to drop off a little bit. I think Maryland wins this one, but it will be close.

Week 8: at Northwestern

Northwestern was BAD last year, only getting one win, which was in week one against Nebraska. They played Maryland incredibly close, but Billy Edwards started the game. I think this one will not be as close and the Terps win handily.

Week 9: Penn State

I think this could be one of the most anticipated matches between the two schools in recent memory. I think both teams come into this week with only one loss and both teams are probably ranked. I really want to say Maryland wins, I really do, but it will be a tough game. I think Penn State wins, but it will be somewhat close.

Week 10: at Nebraska

This will be another tough one for Maryland. Nebraska has not been incredible in recent history, but they changed their coach this season and now have Matt Rhule. They have made moves in the transfer portal and Rhule has proven to be a very good college coach. I think the Terps lose here.

Week 11: Michigan

Last year, Maryland played Michigan close and was very close to pulling off the upset. Michigan is also in a potential look-ahead spot because they face Ohio State the following week. However, I do not think it will be enough for the Terps to win.

Week 12: at Rutgers

After coming off a three-game losing streak, the Terps will get back on track by going to Rutgers in the final week of the season. Rutgers is a team heading in the wrong direction. They don't recruit particularly well, they don't have a quarterback, and their offense in general is an eyesore. Maryland wins handily to end the season.

I predict the Terps go 8-4 this year and make their third straight bowl game for the first time since 2006-2008. It will be a good season and I can see them potentially knocking off one of the big-time opponents. Their defense looks improved and their offense reloaded fairly well. The main issue will be health and the offensive line.
